Another superb red from Chapoutier, darkly fruit with notes of wild herbs and scrub brush and even a hint of licorice.
A bit closed aromatically at first (some vigorous decanting helped), this seems a bit less opulent and more structured than the similarly priced L'esquerda (which is made from grapes from a different village), but this is a superb red in any case. Drink now through 2024. Tasted March 2020.
50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 5% Carignan, and 5% Mourvèdre. Intensely aromatic and fragrant with lovely blackberry, spicy, and some savoury and earthy aromas. It is medium-full bodied and elegant with refined tannins. Complex aromas show up on the palate with very good, balanced acids. Nicely balanced overall with a long, smooth finish. Very classy and elegant. Tasted Mar/2019. Score: 91+ pts
