Whenever I go to Niagara on the Lake, I must visit the Marynissen winery and I can’t resist but to bring home at least a half a case of various vintages. I bought 6 bottles of this wine in the fall of 2008 and have been watching it evolve. They name this vintage Cabernet, because it consist of 50% Franc and 50% Sauvignon. Year and a half ago, I remember this wine to be full of freshly ground pepper, which made it an excelent choice for my steak parties. When I tried it last night, this aged wine was full of red currant, oak, vanilla, green pepper, strong leather and some pine notes. I think it may keep for up to another 2 years, tannins are refined (30 min decanting is needed), body is light and the finish is medium. Since I still have 2 bottles, I think it can surprise me as to how it may evolve. Even though my impression is NICE to BEAUTIFUL, I give it 88 pts. It went great with Canada winning hockey gold. Tasted Feb/10.

If you would like to see wines I recommend and that are still available at the LCBO, please visit this link (listed in my profile):
