Big, rich, very ripe, lush - all apt descriptions yet this never goes over the top. Concentrated, complex, very long finishing. I love the notes of black pepper and herbs. If this was labelled Chateauneuf du Pape, they could sell if for $60. As it comes from the Roussillon, its only $26. Lucky us. A compelling wine. Tasted Sep 2019.
A 2016 Syrah-Grenache (60%/40%) but with some Carignan in there. This is from the Languedoc-Rousillon region of Southern France. This is aged in 10% old French barrels and 90% concrete tanks. Juicy mouth-watering ripe cherry, strawberry, blackberry. Medium aromas of lavender, anise, slate, graphite, grass. The alcohol is at 14.5% but well-integrated with the acidity that produces a pleasant tartness. The tannins are medium to high producing a medium length finish. Very enjoyable wine and at this price a super value.
Dark, opaque, inky purple. Very extracted with stained tears. Aromas of violets, dark fruit (almost stewed) and wet stone minerality. The mouthfeel is big and lush with black cherry, prune, fig, spice, black pepper and smoke. Tannins are ripe and slightly tacky. It's a big wine with high alcohol, but fairly well integrated with only a touch of burn heat on the swallow. Medium acidity and a touch of VA lift provides balance. Length is excellent. Enjoy over the next 5 years with meat stews, cassoulet, bbq fare, hard cheese. April 2019.
