A 2014 blend (or assemblage in French) of five white grape varieties: 54% Chardonnay, 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillion, 5% Viognier, 1% Gewurztraminer. Stratus is an ultra-modern winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake led by winemaker Jean-Laurent Groux, born in Loire Valley, France and trained in Burgundy and Bordeaux. The wine is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels (15% new) and then some time in bottle before release so this doesn't appear on store shelves until four years from harvest. Quite tropical, with banana, apricot, lemon rind, mint, vanilla, grass, other vague herbs and spices. Finish is full on buttery lemon rind. Acids are mouth-watering. Interesting wine.
