This deeply coloured Madiran shows a quite a pretty nose of seedy black raspberry, fine herbs, gentle oak and spice....

Sometimes it's all about the pairing. Had this with some aged flank steak, caramelized onions and melted cheese sandwiches, and it worked wonderfully well.

Received this as part of WA Exchange.
Opened December 2018 which was likely at least a year too soon, perhaps more. Alas, I did my reading about Madiran and its 80% Tannat requirement after the fact. The fact that Cab Sauv is used to _soften_ the wine tells you a lot. The wine is well made, beautiful nose and shows good fruit as other reviewers have noted but the tannins are still overwhelming. Give the wine at least a year or two more in the bottle.
